Here is a candy recipe from the 1915 Larkin cook book ...It sounds pretty good. I may have to try it this year for christmas.

Categories     Candies

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 c figs
1 c dates
1 c prunes, pitted
1 c raisins
1 c walnuts

Steps:

  • 1. This is candy you can let the children make. Wash one cup each of figs, dates, and prunes; add one cup seeded raisins and walnut meats. Put all through the food chopper. Mix throughly and it is ready to use. Form into small balls, dip into melted chocolate and place on waxed paper to dry. Cherries, nuts, pieces of candied pinapple may all be used for the center; if fillings are used you may then call them surprise Balls; others may be dipped in fondant used for making candy baskets. This fruit is also delicious as a sandwich filling. Submitted by Cecelia Hawn, Wabash, Ind.

The candies didn't turn out as chewy as I expected. I think I might have cooked them for too long.

These candies are a bit too sweet for my taste. I would recommend using less sugar next time.

These candies are a great way to use up leftover fruit. I had some strawberries that were about to go bad, so I made a batch of these candies. They turned out great!
