Inspired by the millionaire's bacon at the restaurant Sweet Maple, these sweet, spicy, caramelized strips are perfect for a special breakfast or brunch gathering.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 2h20m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

One 1-pound piece slab bacon (not pre-sliced)
Nonstick cooking spray, for greasing
1 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper
3/4 cup pure maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.
  • Cut bacon lengthwise into nine 1/4- to 1/2-inch-thick slices.
  • Line a baking sheet with foil and place a cooling rack into the baking sheet. Coat the cooling rack with cooking spray.
  • Whisk together the sugar, cayenne, paprika, 2 teaspoons pepper and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a pie dish. Pour 1/2 cup of the maple syrup into a small bowl.
  • Brush both sides of each slice of bacon with maple syrup. Press the bacon, one slice at a time, into the brown sugar mixture to coat. Arrange on the greased wire rack. Sprinkle the bacon with the leftover brown sugar mixture.
  • Bake, rotating halfway through, until the bacon is cooked and the sugar is dark and caramelized, about 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • Transfer the bacon to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Let cool completely. (Bacon can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.)
  • Meanwhile, whisk together the red pepper flakes and remaining 1/4 cup maple syrup in a small bowl. Drizzle the bacon with the red pepper-maple syrup or serve on the side for dipping.

BACON WRAPPED BROWN SUGAR BOURBON TURKEY

Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Bourbon Turkey image

This turkey breast recipe is moist and full-flavored. It hits you with robust spicy and savory flavors. There's a light sweetness from the seasoning too. Juicy and easy to make, you may decide not to make a whole turkey again. And we know, bacon on anything is mighty tasty. A great recipe if you're hosting a small holiday.

Time 2h15m

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 lb turkey breast
1/2 stick butter, softened
1/2 c McCormick's Brown Sugar and Bourbon Spice
6 slice bacon

Steps:

  • 1. Rinse turkey breast off and pat dry.
  • 2. Mix spices with butter to make a soft paste.
  • 3. Smear spice mix onto turkey breast. You can put the paste under the skin if you prefer, this will make the flavor stronger though.
  • 4. Wrap each slice of bacon around the breast, tucking the edges under.
  • 5. You want to cover the entire top of the breast, so more or less bacon is fine.
  • 6. Cover loosely with aluminum foil and roast for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  • 7. Remove foil and allow turkey breast to roast until bacon is crisp.
  • 8. Allow to sit for at least 10 minutes before slicing. You can remove bacon before slicing, or you can slice with the bacon on it. Enjoy!

SUGAR AND SPICE BACON AND EGG SCRAMBLE

Sugar and Spice Bacon and Egg Scramble image

These are my DH's favorite eggs, full of sugary bacon, honey ham, and cheddar cheese. You can even make them healthy using Eggbeaters, turkey bacon and reduced fat cheddar cheese. I use my Sugar and Spice Bacon (or Turkey Bacon) recipe for the bacon

Provided by under12parsecs

Categories     Breakfast

Time 10m

Yield 1-2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

3 large eggs or 3/4 cup Egg Beaters egg substitute
1 tablespoon half-and-half or 1 tablespoon fat-free half-and-half
1 teaspoon honey mustard (I use Gulden's Zesty Honey Mustard)
1/2 teaspoon garlic, grated
1/8 teaspoon black pepper or 1/8 teaspoon cayenne
1 tablespoon butter
kosher salt
2 slices sugared bacon, crumbled
3 slices honey ham, torn
1/4 cup sharp cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon parmesean cheese, grated
1 teaspoon Heinz 57 steak sauce (optional) or 1 teaspoon maple syrup, for serving (optional)

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together eggs, half and half, and honey mustard.
  • In a skillet over medium low heat, melt butter. (I have omitted the butter and used a spray of Pam in a non-stick pan and they still tasted pretty good--not AS good, but still good) Grate garlic into butter and cook until slightly golden. Add eggs and stir gently. If any sign of browning occurs, reduce heat further and cook until beginning to set, but still very wet.
  • Add pepper, bacon, ham and cheese. Scramble in gently and cook to desired doneness. I like mine a bit wet, but DH will not eat them unless they are completely dry :) Season with salt to taste.
  • Serve with an additional drizzle of honey mustard or Hines 57 sauce, or if you love sweet and savory, drizzle a bit of maple syrup on top and enjoy! Good with a light and fluffy biscuit or some crispy hashbrowns.

SUGAR AND SPICE BACON (OR TURKEY BACON)

Sugar and Spice Bacon (Or Turkey Bacon) image

This is how I fix bacon for scrambles, breakfast sandwiches, and just for munching. It is sweet, smokey, salty and just a tad spicy. I especially love it on Turkey Bacon because it makes boring old Turkey Bacon new again!

Provided by under12parsecs

Categories     Breakfast

Time 25m

Yield 3 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

6 slices bacon or 6 slices turkey bacon
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon sugar or 1 tablespoon Splenda sugar substitute
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (fresh grated is best)
1/8 teaspoon allspice
1/8 teaspoon clove
1/8 teaspoon garlic salt
1 pinch cayenne

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350*.
  • Place bacon slices on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
  • Mix together remaining ingredients. If you are using regular bacon, you may want to add garlic powder instead of garlic salt. I always use the lower sodium bacon and Turkey bacon, so I feel like I can add the garlic salt :).
  • Remove from oven, flip bacon and sprinkle this side generously with sugar mixture. Return to oven for 5-7 minutes, until bacon is looking fairly crisp, but not completely done.
  • Remove from oven and flip bacon again. Sprinkle this side with sugar mixture and return to oven until bacon reaches your desired doneness. (I usually allow about 5 more minutes.
  • Remove bacon to paper towel lined plate to use in other recipes or start digging in, being careful not to burn your little fingers on the melty sugar!

Tips:

  • Use high-quality bacon or turkey bacon for the best results.
  • If you don't have brown sugar, you can substitute granulated sugar or maple syrup.
  • Be careful not to burn the bacon or turkey bacon. Cook it over medium heat until it is crispy.
  • Serve the bacon or turkey bacon immediately with your favorite sides.
  • Store leftover bacon or turkey bacon in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

This recipe for sugar and spice bacon or turkey bacon is a delicious and easy way to add some flavor to your breakfast or brunch. The bacon or turkey bacon is coated in a sweet and spicy mixture that gives it a unique and irresistible flavor. The bacon or turkey bacon can be served with your favorite sides, such as eggs, pancakes, or waffles.
