SPICED PUMPKIN VODKA

Spiced Pumpkin Vodka image

Try this pumpkin-infused vodka in the [Smashing Pumpkin Martini](/recipes/recipe_views/views/200308), or use it to invent a holiday cocktail of your own.The bar at Fifty Seven Fifty Seven in New York City, where it was created, uses a liter-sized Stolichnaya bottle to hold the vodka-pumpkin mixture while it steeps.

Yield

Fills a one-liter bottle (a scant quart).

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/2 cups (750 ml) Stolichnaya cinnamon vodka
3/4 cup (175 ml) Stolichnaya vanilla vodka
3/4 cup (175 ml) Stolichnaya vodka
2 whole vanilla beans
2 cups raw pumpkin meat, cut into 1/4-inch slices

Steps:

  • Combine vodkas in bottle or other glass container. Add pumpkin meat and vanilla beans and let sit for 1 week. If necessary, when mixing cocktails strain the vodka as you pour it into the shaker. Consider using toasted pumpkin seeds or some of the vodka-soaked pumpkin as garnish.

Tips:

  • Choose the right pumpkin: For the best flavor, use a small, sugar pumpkin (also known as a pie pumpkin). These pumpkins have a sweeter, denser flesh than larger pumpkins.
  • Roast the pumpkin before using it: Roasting the pumpkin brings out its natural sweetness and flavor. You can roast the pumpkin in the oven or in a slow cooker.
  • Use fresh herbs and spices: Fresh herbs and spices can really elevate the flavor of this martini. Some good options include cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment: This recipe is a great starting point, but you can feel free to adjust the ingredients to your liking. For example, you could add more or less vodka, or you could use a different type of liqueur.
  • Garnish with a pumpkin spice rim: This is a fun and festive way to dress up your martini. To make a pumpkin spice rim, simply mix together some pumpkin pie spice and sugar on a plate. Then, run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip it in the pumpkin spice mixture.

Conclusion:

The Smashing Pumpkin Martini is a delicious and festive cocktail that is perfect for Halloween or Thanksgiving. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So, gather your ingredients and give it a try!
