Categories     main-dish

Time 1h

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 16

2 cups canola oil
1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 cup cornstarch
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 cup vegetable broth
1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons canola oil
1/2 medium onion, sliced
3 tablespoons chopped garlic
1 tablespoon chopped ginger
1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
2 cups broccoli florets, blanched
1 (8-ounce) can water chestnuts, drained
4 cups cooked white rice, for serving

Steps:

  • For the shrimp: Heat the oil until it reaches 360 degrees F in wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Dredge the raw shrimp in the cornstarch. Fry in batches, so as not to overcrowd the pan, until their exteriors crisp up, about 4 to 5 minutes. With a slotted spoon, remove the shrimp from the oil and put them onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  • For the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, vegetable broth and cornstarch. Set the bowl aside.
  • Heat the canola oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the onions, garlic and ginger and stir-fry for 30 seconds. Add the bell pepper and cook for another 30 seconds. Pour in the prepared sauce and cook until the sauce thickens. Stir in the broccoli and water chestnuts and cook for 1 minute, then add the shrimp and fry for 1 minute more. Transfer the shrimp with garlic sauce to a serving bowl and serve hot with cooked rice.

Time 1h

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 (12 ounce) package angel hair pasta
2 ½ tablespoons butter, divided
1 ½ tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups milk
½ cup heavy cream
1 ½ tablespoons pesto
1 ½ tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
2 teaspoons salt, divided
½ teaspoon ground white pepper
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
1 dash hot sauce
½ (16 ounce) package frozen broccoli florets, thawed
1 pound jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
3 cloves garlic, minced

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.

Tips:

  • Use fresh shrimp for the best flavor and texture. Thaw frozen shrimp properly before cooking.
  • Make sure the broccoli is fresh and crisp. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets.
  • Use a large skillet or wok to cook the shrimp and broccoli. This will help to prevent overcrowding and ensure that the food cooks evenly.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the shrimp. This will cause the shrimp to steam instead of sear.
  • Cook the shrimp until they are pink and opaque. Overcooked shrimp will be tough and rubbery.
  • Add the broccoli to the pan and cook until it is tender-crisp. Overcooked broccoli will be mushy.
  • Make the garlic sauce while the shrimp and broccoli are cooking. This will allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve the shrimp and broccoli with rice or noodles. You can also serve it with a side of vegetables.

Conclusion:

This shrimp with broccoli in garlic sauce is a quick and easy weeknight meal that is packed with flavor. The shrimp are tender and juicy, the broccoli is crisp-tender, and the garlic sauce is creamy and flavorful. This dish is sure to please everyone at the table.
