Bachelor Stew image

This was given me a long time ago by a "Bachelor." He told me it was his mainstay dish all through college and he still likes and cooks it now even though he has since married.

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 lb chuck roast
1/3 c dry bread crumbs
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 large onion, cut into 8's
3 medium carrots, cut into 4" strips
4 celery ribs, cut into 1" pieces
1 tsp basil, dried
1/3 c tapioca
4 oz mushrooms, drained
1 tsp kitchen boquet
2 can(s) condensed tomato soup
1 can(s) beef broth

Steps:

  • 1. Cut chuck into 1-2" cubes. Roll in dry bread crumbs. Place in slow cooker. (do not brown)and add rest of ingredients. Put setting on low 10-12 hours or high 3-5 hours.
  • 2. 1/2 cup of Sauterne or other wine of your choice - optional.
