Tips:
- To make the pizza dough from scratch, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast in a medium bowl. Let stand for 5 minutes, until the yeast is foamy.
- Add the olive oil, salt, and flour to the bowl and stir until the dough comes together. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
- While the dough is rising, make the pumpkin puree. Cut a pumpkin in half, scoop out the seeds and pulp, and place the pumpkin halves cut-side down on a baking sheet. Roast the pumpkin in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes, or until the flesh is tender.
- Scoop the roasted pumpkin flesh out of the skin and puree it in a food processor or blender until smooth.
- To make the pizza sauce, combine the pumpkin puree, crushed tomatoes, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
- To assemble the pizza, roll out the dough into a 12-inch (30 cm) circle. Place the dough on a greased baking sheet.
- Spread the pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch (2.5 cm) border. Top with the mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, and olives.
- Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
