Tips:
- Thaw the turkey properly: Thaw the turkey in the refrigerator for 24 hours per 4-5 pounds. For a 12-14 pound turkey, this means 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator.
- Use a good quality herb rub: The herb rub is what gives the turkey its flavor, so make sure to use good quality herbs. Fresh herbs are always best, but dried herbs can also be used.
- Rub the turkey with the herb rub at least 24 hours in advance: This will give the flavors time to penetrate the turkey.
- Roast the turkey at a high temperature for the first 30 minutes: This will help to brown the skin and seal in the juices.
- Reduce the temperature to 325 degrees Fahrenheit for the rest of the cooking time: This will help to prevent the turkey from drying out.
- Baste the turkey with the pan juices every 30 minutes: This will help to keep the turkey moist.
- Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the turkey: The turkey is done when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Let the turkey rest for at least 15 minutes before carving: This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the turkey.
Conclusion:
Herbed rubbed turkey is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. By following these tips, you can ensure that your turkey is cooked to perfection and enjoyed by all.
