I've been looking for a sloppy joe recipe that tasted like my mom's for years (she always just threw it together and I could never get the taste) and finally found it. Since we're Pepsi lovers, I substituted it for the Coca Cola.

1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 1/2 tablespoons flour
1 cup Diet Coke
2/3 cup catsup
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons dry mustard

Steps:

  • Brown beef and onion in a large skillet.
  • Drain well.

1 onion finely chopped
3/4 cup finely chopped green pepper
1 1/2 tbsp all purpose flour
1 cup coca cola
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tbsp vinegar
1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
2 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp salt & 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1. Brown ground beef, onion and green pepper in heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. When meat is cooked through, drain excess fat.

1 lb ground beef or ground chuck
1 medium onion chopped
1 1/2 tsp flour
1/2 c chopped green pepper
1 c coca cola
2/3 c catsup
2 Tbsp vinegar
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp mustard
1 loaf of garlic bread or make your own

Steps:

  • 1. Brown beef,onion and green pepper in a large skillet.
  • 2. Drain any grease off the beef mixture.
  • 3. Over low heat stir in the Coca Cola, flour, and catsup combining well.
  • 4. Stir in the remaining ingredients in the order listed and mix well.
  • 5. Cover and simmer for 20 - 30 minutes.
  • 6. Take two slices of the garlic bread and put sloppy joe mixture between. If you like you can top it with Mozzerella or Cheddar cheese.
