Yield 30

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1/2 cup Progresso™ Panko Italian style crispy bread crumbs
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1 egg
2 cloves garlic, grated
Salt and pepper
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
2 teaspoons chile flakes (or to taste)
Chopped chives (for garnish)

Steps:

  • Mix all of the meatball ingredients together and form your meatballs.
  • Heat a large frying pan with a little oil and gently, one by one, add in the meatballs.
  • After they cook for about 4 minutes, flip the meatballs and cook an additional 4 minutes. Once they're cooked on the outside, they should be a little less delicate. Making sure none are stuck to the bottom, start tossing them in the pan a little more to cook them evenly. Drain most of the fat, leaving a few tablespoons' worth in the pan.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of water to deglaze the pan, scraping up any stuck-on pieces. Add the brown sugar, adding a little more water if the pan looks too dry.
  • The sauce should start to bubble and look like dark caramel.
  • Remove from heat and add in the barbecue sauce. Stir well.
  • Remove from heat and add in the barbecue sauce. Stir well.

Tips:

  • Use a combination of ground meats. This will give the meatballs a more complex flavor and texture.
  • Don't overmix the meatball mixture. Overmixing will make the meatballs tough.
  • Chill the meatball mixture for at least 30 minutes before shaping and cooking. This will help the meatballs hold their shape.
  • Use a large skillet or Dutch oven to cook the meatballs. This will give them plenty of room to brown evenly.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the meatballs. This will prevent them from browning properly.
  • Cook the meatballs until they are browned on all sides and cooked through. This will take about 10-12 minutes per side.
  • Make the brown sugar glaze while the meatballs are cooking. This will give the glaze time to thicken and develop a rich flavor.
  • Pour the brown sugar glaze over the meatballs and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the glaze is bubbling and the meatballs are evenly coated.

Conclusion:

These Brown Sugar Glazed Meatballs are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. They are perfect for a party or potluck, and they can also be served as a weeknight meal. The meatballs are moist and flavorful, and the brown sugar glaze is rich and caramelized. This recipe is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it!
