Time 1h15m

Yield 20 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (14 lb) fully cooked spiral-cut smoked ham, on the bone
6 cloves garlic
8 1/2 ounces mango chutney
1/2 cup Dijon mustard
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 orange, zested
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Place the ham in a heavy roasting pan.
  • Mince the garlic in a food processor fitted with the steel blade.
  • Add the chutney, mustard, brown sugar, orange zest, and orange juice and process until smooth.
  • Pour the glaze over the ham and bake for 1 hour, until the ham is fully heated and the glaze is well browned.
  • Serve hot or at room temperature.

Tips:

  • Choose a good-quality ham: Look for a ham that is fully cooked and has a nice, even color. Avoid hams that have been injected with water or have added fillers.
  • Preheat your oven to the correct temperature: The temperature will vary depending on the size of your ham, so be sure to check the recipe. A good rule of thumb is to cook the ham at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-12 minutes per pound.
  • Use a roasting pan with a rack: This will allow the ham to cook evenly and prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  • Cover the ham with foil: This will help to keep the ham moist and juicy. You can remove the foil during the last 15-20 minutes of cooking to allow the ham to brown.
  • Baste the ham regularly: This will help to keep the ham moist and flavorful. You can use a variety of liquids to baste the ham, such as pineapple juice, orange juice, or honey.
  • Let the ham rest before carving: This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the ham, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Baked Virginia ham is a delicious and easy-to-make holiday dish. By following these tips, you can ensure that your ham turns out perfectly cooked and flavorful. Whether you are serving it for a special occasion or a casual meal, baked Virginia ham is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
