Tips:

  • Select a suitable ground meat: For a flavorful meatloaf, choose a blend of ground beef and ground pork. The beef should be at least 80% lean to prevent the meatloaf from becoming too greasy.
  • Use fresh, high-quality apples: Granny Smith apples are a classic choice for apple meatloaf, as they hold their shape well and provide a tart flavor. However, you can also use other varieties of apples, such as Honeycrisp or Braeburn.
  • Sauté the apples before adding them to the meatloaf: This helps to soften the apples and bring out their sweetness. You can sauté the apples in butter, olive oil, or bacon grease.
  • Use a combination of breadcrumbs and oats in the meatloaf mixture: This helps to bind the ingredients together and provide a tender texture. You can use plain or seasoned breadcrumbs, and you can also use quick-cooking oats or rolled oats.
  • Season the meatloaf generously: Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and other herbs and spices to taste. You can also add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce for extra flavor.
  • Bake the meatloaf in a loaf pan: This helps to keep the meatloaf moist and prevents it from falling apart. You can also use a bundt pan or a muffin tin for individual servings.
  • Let the meatloaf rest before slicing: This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meatloaf, making it easier to slice and serve.

Conclusion:

Apple meatloaf is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It's a great way to use up leftover apples, and it's also a budget-friendly meal that can be easily tailored to your own taste preferences. With its combination of sweet and savory flavors, apple meatloaf is sure to be a hit at your next family gathering or potluck.
