YUMMY MASHED POTATOES

These are good mashed potatoes that I make a lot.

Categories     Potatoes

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 5

10 medium russet potatoes, peeled & cubed
1 stick butter, softened
1 c sour cream
salt and pepper, to taste
*milk to thin out a bit if needed

Steps:

  • 1. Place your peeled & cubed potatoes in a dutch oven pot and pour cold water just to cover them. Cook at medium to high setting until potatoes are tender but not mushy.
  • 2. Drain potatoes in a strainer until all water is gone. Place potatoes back in pot and add the butter and sour cream. I use a hand mixer and leave some potato lumps in there (my husband loves them that way) then season with salt and pepper. If the potatoes are too thick you can add a little milk (2% or evaporated is good)

Tips:

  • For a creamier texture, use Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes.
  • To make the potatoes extra fluffy, whip them with a hand mixer or food processor.
  • If you don't have any milk on hand, you can use chicken broth or water instead.
  • Add a dollop of sour cream or butter for extra richness.
  • Season the potatoes generously with salt and pepper. You can also add other herbs and spices, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • If you're making mashed potatoes ahead of time, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When you're ready to serve, reheat them gently over low heat, stirring occasionally.

Conclusion:

Mashed potatoes are a classic side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They're easy to make and can be customized to your liking. Whether you like them creamy, fluffy, or loaded with butter and sour cream, there's a mashed potato recipe out there for everyone. So next time you're looking for a comforting and delicious side dish, give one of these recipes a try.
