YUMMY RIBS - BAKED & BBQ'D - EASY!!

Yummy Ribs - Baked & BBQ'd - Easy!! image

This is a recipe discovery (and my first posting of a recipe) but I've gotten so many amazing recipes off this site that I thought I owe it to the site to post an amazing and super-easy rib recipe. The delicious part of this is that it is so completely HANDS OFF that they can cook all day with a quick finish on the bar-b and your guests will be crooning for hours. Make lots - they go quick!! I should mention this recipe is so flexible - adjust however you like and you'll still get an amazing result!! I like to serve it with baked sweet potato (simply chop up a sweet potato, wrap in foil, and throw them in the oven for the last 30-45 mins) and coleslaw. mmmm goood. You can also "improve" any store bought sauce by adding ketchup, brown sugar or maple syrup or honey to suit your tastes - if you like garlic, add that too for a personalized "wow" result.

Time 2h10m

Yield 2-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 racks pork back ribs (or more)
0.5 (8 ounce) can beer or 0.5 (8 ounce) can other liquid
2 tablespoons montreal steak spice
salt
pepper
2 cloves chopped garlic (optional)
8 ounces bottled barbecue sauce (honey based ones are awesome)

Steps:

  • Chop ribs to a size that will fit your roaster. Sprinkle Salt, Pepper and a touch of Montreal Steak Spice over the ribs.
  • Place ribs in the roasting pan and pour about an inch of beer in the bottom of the roaster.
  • Roast ribs in oven for 2 hours at 350F or 3 hours at 325°F They'll smell great.
  • Take them out of the roaster, let them cool slightly and then slather them with your favorite bbq sauce and grill them on your barbecue until the sauce thickens and becomes a bit sticky. Indirect grilling works best but if you don't, watch them closely because the sugar in the barbecue sauce will make them turn black if you aren't careful. Serve them quickly!

Yield Makes 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 cups pineapple juice
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons each soy sauce and honey
1 slab of spareribs, about 2 pounds

Steps:

  • 1. For the marinade, combine pineapple juice, ketchup, soy sauce, and honey in a saucepan. Simmer 7 to 8 minutes to thicken. Cool. Cut the rack of ribs in half crosswise, if necessary. Cover with the cooled marinade and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
  • 2. Bake the ribs in a 350°F oven for 45 minutes, basting occasionally. When cooked through, finish them off on the grill, 3 inches from the heat source over medium heat. Grill 4 to 5 minutes per side, basting with the remaining marinade. Serve immediately.

Tips for Making the Best BBQ Ribs:

  • Choose the right ribs: Baby back ribs are the most popular choice for BBQ ribs, but you can also use spare ribs or St. Louis-style ribs. Baby back ribs are leaner and have a sweeter flavor, while spare ribs are fattier and have a more robust flavor. St. Louis-style ribs are a combination of baby back ribs and spare ribs, and they have a good balance of both flavors.
  • Prepare the ribs properly: Before cooking the ribs, remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. This will help the ribs cook more evenly and will also make them more tender. You can also trim any excess fat from the ribs.
  • Use a good BBQ rub: A good BBQ rub will help to flavor the ribs and give them a nice crust. There are many different BBQ rubs available, so you can choose one that you like. You can also make your own BBQ rub using a combination of spices, herbs, and sugar.
  • Cook the ribs slowly and low: BBQ ribs should be cooked slowly and low in order to make them tender and juicy. The ideal cooking temperature is between 225 and 250 degrees Fahrenheit. You can cook the ribs in a smoker, on a grill, or in the oven.
  • Baste the ribs regularly: While the ribs are cooking, baste them regularly with BBQ sauce or apple juice. This will help to keep the ribs moist and will also add flavor.
  • Let the ribs rest before serving: Once the ribs are cooked, let them rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the ribs, making them even more tender and flavorful.
