YIA YIA'S BAKLAVA

Yia Yia's Baklava image

This recipe was passed from my Yia Yia to her daughter-in-law (my mother) to me. People love this as a Christmas gift. It has gained a big reputation among our friends. One time, my mother donated a small tin of baklava to a church charity auction. It was very competitive, but the price was driven up to $40!

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 tablespoon butter
¼ cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 ½ teaspoons salt
1 ½ teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
2 pounds extra-lean ground beef
3 slices bread, toasted and crumbled
7 buttery round crackers, crushed
1 egg, lightly beaten
3 ½ tablespoons sour cream
1 ½ tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce, divided
¼ cup milk
3 tablespoons ketchup

Steps:

Tips:

  • Use a combination of ground beef and ground pork. This will give your meatloaf a more flavorful and juicy texture.
  • Don't overmix the meatloaf mixture. Overmixing can make the meatloaf tough.
  • Add some bread crumbs or oatmeal to the meatloaf mixture. This will help to absorb moisture and keep the meatloaf from becoming dry.
  • Don't pack the meatloaf mixture into the loaf pan too tightly. This can also make the meatloaf tough.
  • Bake the meatloaf at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the meatloaf.

Conclusion:

Yaya's Easy and Delicious Meatloaf is a classic comfort food that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious meatloaf that your whole family will love.
