Foil
Roasting pan (or rimmed baking sheet)
Silicone basting brush (optional)
Country-style pork ribs*
Salt and pepper
Your favorite BBQ sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F. Salt and pepper both sides of your ribs and place in a single layer in your pan, fattier side up.
  • Cover the pan tightly with foil and bake for 2 hours. Carefully (steam and liquid in the tray will be hot!) remove ribs from the oven and check the meat. They should be starting to become tender. If they still feel tough, re-cover them and place them back in the oven for 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Transfer ribs to a plate and drain liquid from the pan. Return ribs to tray and brush with a generous coating of BBQ sauce.
  • Turn oven down to 275°F and bake ribs, uncovered, for 1 hour more, or until you can pull the meat apart with a fork (if your ribs were small and already pretty tender when you put them back in the oven, start checking after 20 minutes). Brush with another coat of BBQ sauce, rest for 5 minutes, serve and enjoy!

WESTERN-STYLE GRILLED SPARERIBS

Western-Style Grilled Spareribs image

Provided by Food Network

Categories     main-dish

Time 2h25m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

5 to 6 pounds spareribs (two 2 1/2- to 3-pound racks)
1/2 cup Peppery Dry Rub, recipe follows
Vegetable oil cooking spray
3 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons paprika
2 teaspoons crushed red pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 clove garlic, minced

Steps:

  • Trim the spareribs, if necessary, and rub both sides of the ribs with the dry rub, working it into the meat. Put the ribs in a shallow glass or ceramic dish, cover, and set aside at room temperature for no longer than 30 minutes, or refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Alternatively, enclose the ribs in a sealable plastic bag and refrigerate.
  • Prepare a charcoal or gas grill, arranging the coals for indirect cooking. Lightly spray the grill rack with vegetable cooking spray. The coals should be hot.
  • Set the ribs, meat side down, over the hottest part of the fire and sear for about 10 minutes until there are defined grill marks on the meat. Transfer the ribs to the cooler part of the grill, cover, and turning the ribs every 15 to 20 minutes, cook for about 1 1/2 hours. If using a charcoal grill, add fresh coals to maintain the heat at medium; if using a gas grill, turn the heat to medium on the burner away from the meat -- turn off the burner under the meat. Cut the ribs between the bones and serve with sauce on the side.
  • Mix the ingredients together in a glass jar or bowl. Cover and shake to mix. Refrigerate until ready to use.

MOM'S OVEN-BARBECUED RIBS

Mom's Oven-Barbecued Ribs image

My mom made these tender ribs for special Sunday suppers when we were growing up. A few common ingredients are all you need to make the zesty sauce that coats them. My family's eyes light up when I bring a plate of these ribs to the table, and company never suspects how easy they are to prepare. -Yvonne White Williamson, New York

Tips:

  • Choose the right ribs: Baby back ribs or spare ribs are both good choices for this recipe. Baby back ribs are leaner and cook more quickly, while spare ribs are more flavorful and have more meat.
  • Prepare the ribs: Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs and trim any excess fat. Cut the ribs into individual portions.
  • Make the rub: Combine the spices and herbs to make the rub. Apply the rub to the ribs, making sure to coat them evenly.
  • Cook the ribs: There are two ways to cook the ribs: in the oven or on the grill. If cooking in the oven, preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and cook the ribs for 2-3 hours, or until they are tender and fall off the bone. If grilling, preheat the grill to medium-low heat and cook the ribs for 1-2 hours, turning them occasionally.
  • Baste the ribs: Baste the ribs with the sauce every 30 minutes or so while they are cooking. This will help to keep them moist and flavorful.
  • Serve the ribs: Serve the ribs hot with your favorite sides, such as coleslaw, potato salad, or baked beans.

Conclusion:

Western ribs are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. With just a few simple ingredients and a little time, you can create a meal that will impress your friends and family. So next time you're looking for a hearty and satisfying meal, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
