Categories     Cakes

Number Of Ingredients 17

1 c oil
1/2 c cocoa powder
1 c boiling water
2 c flour
2 c sugar
2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 c buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp vanilla
ICING
1 stick butter
6 Tbsp cream
4 Tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla
1 c chopped pecans
4-5 c powdered sugar

Steps:

  • 1. In large measuring cup add oil, cocoa and water. Microwave 1 minute, set aside. In large mixing bowl combine flour, sugar soda and salt. Add buttermilk, eggs, vanilla and hot cocoa liquid. Mix until blended (mixture will be runny) Pour into a sheet pan and bake 20-25 minutes in 350 degree oven. While cake is baking, make icing: Bring butter, milk and cocoa to a boil. add vanilla and powdered sugar - mix until creamy - add pecans. When cake is done, remove and poke holes in top. Spread icing over hot cake so it melts into holes.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate for a richer flavor. A semisweet or bittersweet chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 60% is recommended.
  • Make sure the chocolate and butter are completely melted and smooth before adding them to the other ingredients. This will help to create a smooth and creamy batter.
  • Don't overbeat the batter. Overbeating can make the cake tough and dense. Mix just until the ingredients are well combined.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven. This will help to ensure that the cake rises evenly.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.

Conclusion:
