VIRGINIA BROWNIES
If you like a fudgy brownie this is the one for you! The original recipe came from an old Southern Living book series that my Mom has. My baby brother would make this recipe and set up a brownie stand in the summer in leiu of the usual lemonade stand! We made this so much as kids the page it is printed on has fallen out of the book... I use melted butter in place of the shortening. This is good with or without the glaze.

VANILLA BROWNIES
I like to include the chocolate chips because I love chocolate, but they can be omitted. I have made them without the chips and they still came out great!

People love these rich chocolate chip brownies so much that I never take them anywhere without bringing along several copies of the recipe to hand out. The treats are wonderful to take on a picnic because you don't have to worry about melted frosting. -Brenda Kelly, Ashburn, Virginia

VALENTINE BROWNIES
In Austin, Texas, Susan Ohlendorf found a fun way to show her loved ones how much she cares. She prepares brownies from a mix, cuts a heart shape out of each one and fills the center with homemade frosting. "Our grandson loves to eat the little heart-shaped brownies that are left over," she notes.
