1 (10 ounce) bag frozen mixed vegetables (BirdsEye peppers and onions)
4 minced garlic cloves
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
1 cup textured vegetable protein
vegetable bouillon cube
hot sauce (optional)
1 tablespoon Braggs liquid aminos (use soy sauce if you don't have it)
oil (for frying)

  • Cook vegies& garlic in a little oil till tender.
  • Add paste, ketchup, sugar, Braggs, hot sauce and enough water to thin sauce a little.

Tips:

  • Choose the right bread. Hearty, sturdy bread like hoagie rolls or hamburger buns will hold up to the sloppy filling.
  • Make sure your vegetables are finely chopped. This will help them blend in with the sauce and prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different vegetables. This recipe is a great way to use up leftover veggies, so feel free to add whatever you like.
  • Use a good quality BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauce is the key to flavor in this recipe, so make sure you choose one that you enjoy.
  • Cook the sloppy joes until the sauce is thick and bubbly. This will help to develop the flavor and prevent the sloppy joes from being too runny.
  • Serve the sloppy joes immediately. They're best when they're hot and fresh out of the pan.
