Tips:

  • Choose firm cucumbers: Use firm, unwaxed cucumbers for the boats to ensure they can hold the filling without getting soggy.
  • Score cucumbers evenly: To achieve clean and even cucumber halves, score them deeply and evenly before slicing them in half lengthwise.
  • Scoop out cucumber seeds: Use a melon baller or a spoon to scoop out the cucumber seeds and flesh from the center to make room for the filling.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Don't limit yourself to the vegetables mentioned in the recipe. Feel free to mix and match different vegetables such as bell peppers, carrots, celery, or zucchini.
  • Drain canned tuna well: Make sure to drain the canned tuna thoroughly before adding it to the filling to prevent excess liquid from making the filling watery.
  • Season the filling: Don't forget to season the tuna and veggie filling with salt, pepper, and herbs to enhance its flavor.
  • Chill the boats before serving: Once assembled, chill the cucumber boats for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator to allow the flavors to meld and for the cucumbers to become crisp and refreshing.
