Tips:
- Oats: Use old-fashioned rolled oats for the best texture and flavor.
- Flour: All-purpose flour is the most common type used in oatmeal bars, but you can also use whole wheat flour or almond flour for a healthier option.
- Sweetener: Brown sugar is a classic choice for oatmeal bars, but you can also use granulated sugar, coconut sugar, or maple syrup. For a healthier option, you can use honey or agave nectar.
- Butter: Unsalted butter is best for oatmeal bars so you can control the amount of salt. If you only have salted butter, omit the additional salt in the recipe.
- Eggs: Eggs help to bind the ingredients together and give the bars a chewy texture. If you are vegan, you can substitute flax eggs or chia eggs.
- Vanilla extract: Vanilla extract adds a classic flavor to oatmeal bars. You can also use almond extract or maple extract for a different flavor profile.
- Mix-ins: Oatmeal bars are a great way to use up leftover fruit, nuts, and chocolate. Some popular mix-ins include raisins, cranberries, walnuts, pecans, and chocolate chips.
- Baking: Oatmeal bars are typically baked in a 9x13 inch baking pan. The baking time will vary depending on the recipe, but they are usually baked for 25-35 minutes.
- Cooling: Oatmeal bars need to cool completely before cutting and serving. This will help them to set and hold their shape.
Conclusion:
Oatmeal bars are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or a snack. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With so many different recipes to choose from, there is sure to be an oatmeal bar recipe that everyone will love.
