1 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 (18 1/4 ounce) package butter pecan cake mix
3/4 cup melted butter
1 cup chopped pecans (optional) or 1 cup walnuts (optional)

Steps:

  • In large bowl, combine all ingredients except butter, nuts, and cake mix.
  • Mix well.
  • Pour into greased 9x13 pan.
  • Sprinkle dry cake mix evenly over the pumpkin mixture.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use fresh pumpkin puree. You can make your own by roasting and pureeing a sugar pumpkin, or you can buy it canned.
  • Be sure to drain the pumpkin puree well before using it. This will help to prevent the filling from being too watery.
  • Add a pinch of salt to the pumpkin puree. This will help to balance out the sweetness of the filling.
  • Use a combination of spices in the filling, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. This will give the pie cobbler a warm and inviting flavor.
  • Don't overmix the filling. Overmixing can make the filling tough.
  • Use a deep-dish pie plate for the cobbler. This will help to prevent the filling from bubbling over.
  • Bake the cobbler at a high temperature for the first 15 minutes. This will help to create a crispy crust.
  • Reduce the temperature to moderate for the remaining baking time. This will help to prevent the crust from burning.
  • Serve the cobbler warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
