THAI GINGER CHICKEN (GAI PAD KING)

Thai Ginger Chicken (Gai Pad King) image

My family loved ordering this dish at our local Thai restaurant, but then they closed down for some unknown reason (they were always busy). So I decided to recreate this traditional dish at home. My husband says it's just like the restaurant...maybe even better? Please note that some people like to eat the ginger, while others don't but like the flavor it gives off. You can easily double this recipe to serve a larger group...plus it makes great leftovers.

Tips:

  • Mise en place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all the ingredients and tools you need. This will help you stay organized and avoid any scrambling.
  • Use fresh ingredients: The fresher your ingredients, the better your dish will taste. Whenever possible, use fresh vegetables, herbs, and meat.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the chicken, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the chicken from cooking evenly and will make it more likely to stick to the pan.
  • Use a good quality fish sauce: Fish sauce is a key ingredient in many Thai dishes. Make sure you use a good quality fish sauce that is not too salty or fishy.
  • Adjust the heat level to your liking: This recipe calls for a medium heat level. However, you can adjust the heat level to your liking. If you want a spicier dish, add more chili peppers. If you want a milder dish, use fewer chili peppers or omit them altogether.

Conclusion:

This Thai chicken with ginger and mushrooms is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. The chicken is tender and flavorful, and the ginger and mushrooms add a nice depth of flavor. Serve this dish with rice or noodles, and you have a complete meal that the whole family will enjoy.
