LOW-FAT TERIYAKI GRILLED TUNA STEAKS

Low-Fat Teriyaki Grilled Tuna Steaks image

This is a wonderful, easy, and tasty way to prepare tuna steaks on the grill. I remember the first time I ate a tuna steak, was at a restaurant in N.C., and it was slathered with this herb butter. I remember thinking, why ruin a beautiful tuna steak by adding all that fat, when it doesn't even need it to taste incredible! This marinade adds just the right amount of flavor without piling on the fat...which leads to packing on the pounds!!!

Categories     World Cuisine Recipes     Asian

Time 1h

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 8

½ cup teriyaki sauce
1 ½ pounds sashimi grade tuna steaks
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 lemon
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
2 teaspoons sea salt
ground black pepper to taste
1 carrot, grated

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place tuna steaks in the hot oil, and pour in the teriyaki sauce. Squeeze juice from the lemon over the steaks, and sprinkle with sesame seeds. When the bottom is light brown, flip the steaks, and cook until browned on the other side. The center will still be slightly red. Season with sea salt and pepper.
  • Place the tuna steaks onto serving plates, and garnish with grated carrots. Serve the pan drippings as a dipping sauce.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality tuna steaks: Look for tuna steaks that are bright red in color and have a firm texture. Avoid steaks that are brown or gray, as these may be old or spoiled.
  • Marinate the tuna steaks for at least 30 minutes: This will help to infuse the tuna with flavor and make it more tender. You can use a variety of marinades, such as teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, mirin, sake, or rice vinegar.
  • Cook the tuna steaks over high heat: This will help to sear the outside of the tuna and keep the inside moist and juicy. You can cook the tuna steaks in a skillet, on a grill, or in the oven.
  • Do not overcook the tuna steaks: Tuna steaks are best cooked rare or medium-rare. Overcooked tuna will be dry and tough.
  • Serve the tuna steaks with a variety of sides: Some popular sides for teriyaki tuna steaks include rice, noodles, vegetables, and salad.

Conclusion:

Teriyaki tuna is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a quick and healthy meal. By following these tips, you can make sure that your teriyaki tuna steaks are cooked to perfection and full of flavor. Enjoy!
