Tips:
- Choose the right ham: Select a fully cooked ham for easy preparation. Bone-in hams offer more flavor, while boneless hams are easier to carve.
- Enhance the flavor: Score the ham's surface to allow the glaze to penetrate and enhance its flavor. You can also add flavorings like cloves or pineapple slices to the glaze.
- Glaze the ham: Use a flavorful glaze to add moisture and sweetness to the ham. Common glaze ingredients include brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, and spices.
- Preheat the oven: Ensure your oven is adequately preheated before baking the ham. This helps create a crispy crust and evenly cook the meat.
- Cover the ham: Cover the ham with foil during baking to prevent it from drying out. Remove the foil during the last 15-20 minutes to allow the glaze to caramelize.
- Use a meat thermometer: Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the ham to ensure it reaches an internal temperature of 140°F (60°C) for a pre-cooked ham.
- Let the ham rest: Allow the ham to rest for 15-20 minutes before carving. This helps redistribute the juices and prevents them from running out when slicing.
