TART CHERRY AND GINGER MARGARITA

Tart Cherry and Ginger Margarita image

A tipple of ginger liqueur adds zip and complexity to this tart cherry riff on a margarita. To prep a batch for friends, add the ingredients to a jar the night before and refrigerate. When cocktail hour arrives you can simply add ice to the jar, stir, and strain the ruby red elixir into glasses.

WILD CHERRY MARGARITA

Wild Cherry Margarita image

This is like your grandmother's cherry pie, but with a kick! I told my DH it wouldn't be summer unless I created a new margarita, and let me tell you, this one rocks!

Provided by PalatablePastime

Categories     Beverages

Time 5m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/2 cup frozen pitted tart cherries (or may use drained canned pitted pie cherries, frozen after draining)
1 1/2 fluid ounces mixto tequila (or whichever type of tequila you prefer)
2 fluid ounces cherry juice or 2 fluid ounces cherry syrup
1 fluid ounce fresh lime juice
1 fluid ounce triple sec or 1 fluid ounce Cointreau liqueur
2 cups ice (more or less to achieve consistency)
1 stemmed maraschino cherry, to garnish (optional)

Steps:

  • Place liquid ingredients in the bottom of your blender (do not add ice first or you will jam the blades).
  • Add ice.
  • Puree until ice is smooth and margarita is thick and creamy, adding ice to achieve consistency if necessary.
  • Pour into a frosted margarita glass, garnish with maraschino cherry, and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose ripe tart cherries. Look for cherries that are deep red in color and have a plump, firm texture. Avoid cherries that are bruised or have any signs of mold.
  • Use fresh ginger. Fresh ginger has a more intense flavor than ground ginger. If you don't have fresh ginger, you can use 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger instead.
  • Make the ginger syrup ahead of time. The ginger syrup can be made up to 2 weeks in advance. Store it in a airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Rim the glasses with salt. This will add a salty flavor to the margaritas and help to balance out the sweetness of the cherries.
  • Serve the margaritas chilled. The margaritas are best served chilled. You can chill them in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving, or you can serve them over ice.

Conclusion:

This tart cherry and ginger margarita is a refreshing and delicious cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. The tart cherries and ginger give the margarita a unique and flavorful taste that is sure to please everyone. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy-to-make cocktail, give this tart cherry and ginger margarita a try.
