A friend of mentioned how much she loves Swiss cheese balls, so I went on a search to find a recipe. Here's one from several different recipes I found on the web! My friend just had hip surgery done and I'm looking for ways to surprise her and keep her spirits up. I think this will do it, it's good! :)

Number Of Ingredients 10

8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (I used a shredded cheddar or mozzarella mix)
8 ounces swiss cheese, shredded
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1/3 cup sour cream
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/3 cup finely chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans are good, I haven't tried toasted but I bet that would be good)
1/4 cup fresh chives, chopped (optional- you may also use chopped fresh parsley, or fresh thyme)

Steps:

  • Place cheddar, Swiss, and cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, black pepper, and garlic salt in a medium bowl.
  • Place in a food processor and pulse until well blended.
  • In bowl, place nuts and chives, if using. Stir to mix.
  • Shape mixture into a ball, roll in the chopped nuts and chives(if using).
  • Wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap and refrigerate until serving time.
  • Serve with raw vegetables or crackers.

1/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons flour, plus additional flour for rolling balls
1/2 cup hot milk
1/2 lb swiss cheese, grated
salt and pepper
nutmeg
2 egg yolks
oil (for deep frying)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  • In a sauce over medium heat, melt the butter.
  • Stir in the 2 T flour.
  • Add milk and stir to mix well.
  • Add the Swiss cheese and seasonings to taste.
  • Stir so all ingredients are well combined.
  • Add the egg yolks and remove from the heat.
  • Pour mixture in a 9x9" baking dish.
  • Bake in the preheated 300 degree oven for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the dish from the oven and refrigerate for 2 hours or until completely cooled.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer.
  • Form balls and roll in the additional flour.
  • Deep fry the cheese balls, a few at a time, until golden brown.
  • Remove from hot oil and drain.

4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
1 cup sharp shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons real bacon bits
2 tablespoons finely chopped pecans
1 tablespoon diced pimientos
1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
Dash each salt and pepper
TOPPING:
3 tablespoons real bacon bits
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
2 tablespoons finely chopped pecans
1-1/2 teaspoons poppy seeds
Assorted crackers

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. Stir in the Swiss and cheddar cheeses, onion, bacon, pecans, pimientos, relish, salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour., In a small shallow bowl, combine the bacon, parsley, pecans and poppy seeds. Shape cheese mixture into a ball; roll in bacon mixture. Wrap in plastic; refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Serve with crackers.

2 pounds pork sausage
1 ½ cups buttermilk baking mix
16 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
½ cup diced onion
½ cup chopped celery
½ teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Combine the sausage, baking mix, cheddar cheese, onion, celery and garlic powder. Mix well and form into 1 inch balls.

Oh My Goodness! These are so delicious! One of the best recipes I've ever created. I took a twist on an old appetizer recipe and had a good ole' inspiration. My husband says "Reuben Balls Rock"

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 Tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 c onion, chopped
2 clove garlic, minced
12 oz corned beef roast, cooked, trimmed & chopped
1 can(s) sauerkraut drained & squeezed dry (14 oz can)
4 slice rye bread, toasted and processed into crumbs
4 oz cream cheese, room temperature
2/3 c swiss cheese, chopped or grated
2 Tbsp parsley, chopped fresh
2 tsp mustard, grainy
1/2 c flour
1/4 c egg whites
thousand island dressing (for dipping)

Steps:

  • 1. Sauté onions in oil until softened. Add corned beef and garlic. Sauté on medium low heat about 2 minutes, just until warmed. Add cream cheese and stir in until melted. Remove from heat.
  • 2. Add swiss cheese and sauerkraut. Stir until combined. Add 3 Tbsp of rye bread crumbs, parsley, and mustard.
  • 3. Cool until easily handled. Form into 1&1/2 inch balls. Roll in flour. Refrigerate until completely cool. Dip in egg whites then roll in remaining bread crumbs. Let sit at least 1-2 hours in refrigerator until firm.
  • 4. Fry in canola oil until golden brown. Serve warm with thousand island dressing for dipping.

Tips:
