When I was searching for a recipe to make homemade caramel apples for the very first time, a close friend gave me this amazing and fairly easy recipe. Time 2h

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 large tart apples
8 wooden chopsticks for handles
1 cup butter
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil. Dip apples in boiling water for a few seconds, then dry with paper towels to remove any wax from the peels. Set apples aside; when completely cool, insert a wooden chopstick firmly into the bottom of each apple for a handle.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Stir butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk together in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and reduce heat to medium. Cook until a candy thermometer reads 248 degrees F (120 degrees C), 25 to 30 minutes; stir constantly to prevent burning. A teaspoon of the syrup, dropped in a glass of cold water, should form a firm ball. Remove caramel from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Working quickly, dip each apple into the hot caramel to completely coat the apple and about 1/2 inch of the wooden handle. Sprinkle apples with any desired toppings while still hot. Let caramel apples cool on the parchment paper. Use caution, caramel is very hot.

CARAMEL APPLES

Time 1h

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 apples
Cooking spray
4 cups sugar
1/4 cup corn syrup
10 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
2 cups heavy cream, at room temperature
Crushed chocolate cookies, for coating

Steps:

  • Insert a wooden stick into the stem end of each apple. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Make the caramel: Melt the sugar and corn syrup in a large pot over medium-high heat, stirring with a wooden spoon until combined. Don't stress if it starts to clump: It will eventually even out. Cook, swirling the pan but not stirring, until dark amber in color and a candy thermometer registers 245 degrees F, 8 to 12 minutes.
  • Add the butter all at once, stirring until incorporated. Turn down the heat to medium and pour in the heavy cream (the mixture will foam up); whisk until smooth.
  • Increase the heat to medium high and bring the caramel up to 250 degrees F, 8 to 10 minutes. Turn off the heat and let cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Dip the apples in the caramel and roll in crushed cookies; place on the baking sheet to set, 5 to 10 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady apples are all good choices for caramel apples, as they are firm and hold their shape well.
  • Wash and dry the apples thoroughly: This will help the caramel stick to the apples better.
  • Insert the sticks: Push the sticks into the center of the apples, making sure they are secure.
  • Melt the caramel: You can do this in a saucepan over low heat or in the microwave. If you are using the microwave, heat the caramel in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until it is melted and smooth.
  • Dip the apples in the caramel: Hold the apple by the stick and dip it into the melted caramel, turning it to coat it evenly. If using toppings, add them while the caramel is still wet.
  • Place the apples on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet: This will help prevent them from sticking to the pan.
  • Let the apples cool: Allow the caramel to harden completely before enjoying the apples. You can speed up the process by placing them in the refrigerator.

Conclusion:

Caramel apples are a delicious and festive treat that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With so many different variations to choose from, there is sure to be a caramel apple that everyone will love. So next time you are looking for a sweet treat, give caramel apples a try. You won't be disappointed!
