  • I decrease the sugars by 1/2 cup and cut the salt to 1/2 tsp as I do not like very sweet desserts. Sweet rice is available in Asian markets. The short grain sweet rice is normally used. Long-grained glutinous rice is used by Thai's for sweet sticky rice. Coconut milk can be purchased canned or frozen.

Tips:

  • Use the right kind of rice: Glutinous rice is the traditional rice used for sweet rice dishes, as it has a sticky texture that helps to hold the dish together. If you can't find glutinous rice, you can use short-grain rice instead, but it will not be as sticky.
  • Rinse the rice thoroughly: This will help to remove any dirt or debris from the rice and prevent it from becoming gummy.
  • Soak the rice before cooking: Soaking the rice for at least 30 minutes will help to soften it and make it more evenly cooked. You can soak the rice in cold water or in warm water, depending on how much time you have.
  • Use the right amount of water: The amount of water you use will depend on the type of rice you are using and the desired consistency of the dish. For glutinous rice, you will typically need about 1 1/2 cups of water for every cup of rice. For short-grain rice, you will typically need about 1 3/4 cups of water for every cup of rice.
  • Cook the rice over low heat: This will help to prevent the rice from scorching and will give it a more even texture.
  • Stir the rice occasionally: This will help to prevent the rice from sticking to the pot or pan.
  • Let the rice rest before serving: This will allow the rice to absorb any excess moisture and will make it easier to serve.

Conclusion:

Sweet rice is a versatile dish that can be served as a side dish, a dessert, or a snack. It is a popular dish in many Asian cultures and is often served during special occasions.
