Time 25m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 green banana
oil
salt

Steps:

  • peel the banana.
  • cut into 2 cm cylinders.
  • fry these cylinders until the banana is a pale yellow colour.
  • remove from the heat.
  • place on a non-porous surface and using a glass or a plate you squash the plantain to make circles about half a Cm. thick.
  • Use salt to your own taste and fry until they are crispy.
  • Serve hot with guasacaca sauce or garlic "mojo".

Tips:

  • Choose the right bananas: Use ripe but firm plantains for the best results. Overripe plantains will be too soft and mushy, while underripe plantains will be too hard and difficult to flatten.
  • Slice the plantains evenly: This will help them cook evenly. If the slices are too thick, they will take longer to cook and may not be as crispy.
  • Fry the plantains in hot oil: This will help them get crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. If the oil is not hot enough, the plantains will absorb too much oil and become greasy.
  • Drain the plantains on paper towels: This will help remove excess oil and make them extra crispy.
  • Season the plantains with your favorite spices: Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cumin are all good options. You can also add a squeeze of lime juice or a sprinkle of fresh cilantro.

Conclusion:

Sweet banana tostones are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed as an appetizer, side dish, or main course. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a little creativity, you can create endless variations of this classic Caribbean dish. So next time you are looking for something new and exciting to try, give sweet banana tostones a try!
