Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 9

3/4 c sugar
1 egg white
2 1/2 Tbsp water
1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
8 c pecans, halved

Steps:

  • 1. Combine first 8 ingredients in large bowl; mix well.
  • 2. Add pecans to mixture; stir until evenly coated.
  • 3. Spread pecans in a greased jelly roll pan.
  • 4. Bake at 275 degrees for 50-55 minutes.
  • 5. Remove to waxed paper while still warm; cool.

Tips:

  • Choose the right nuts: Pecans are the classic choice for this recipe, but you can also use walnuts, almonds, or cashews.
  • Use fresh spices: Ground spices will work in a pinch, but freshly grated nutmeg and cinnamon will give your pecans a more intense flavor.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When roasting the pecans, spread them out in a single layer so that they cook evenly.
  • Watch the pecans closely: They can go from perfectly roasted to burnt in a matter of minutes, so keep an eye on them while they're cooking.
  • Let the pecans cool completely: Before storing or serving the pecans, let them cool completely so that the sugar coating hardens.

Conclusion:

Sugar and spice pecans are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed on their own, used as a topping for desserts, or added to salads and other dishes. They're also a great gift idea for friends and family. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make your own delicious batch of sugar and spice pecans at home.
