Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: For a creamy soup, use starchy potatoes like Russet or Yukon Gold. These potatoes will break down easily and create a smooth, thick soup.
  • Bake the potatoes properly: Baking the potatoes until they are tender is essential for a flavorful soup. Pierce the potatoes with a fork and bake them at 400°F for about an hour, or until they are soft when pierced with a knife.
  • Use a good quality cheese: The type of cheese you use will greatly affect the flavor of the soup. For a sharp, flavorful soup, use a sharp cheddar cheese. For a milder flavor, use a mild cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese.
  • Don't skimp on the cream: Cream is what gives this soup its rich, creamy texture. Use at least 1 cup of heavy cream or half-and-half for a creamy soup.
  • Season the soup to taste: Season the soup with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste. You can also add other spices, such as paprika, cayenne pepper, or cumin, to taste.
