ITALIAN STUFFED FRENCH LOAF

ITALIAN STUFFED FRENCH LOAF image

Categories     Beef     Pork     Bake     Quick & Easy

Yield 6 Servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 Large French Loaf
6 Spicy Italian Sausages
1/2lb Lean Ground Beef
1 Large Green Pepper
1 Small Onion
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 can (6oz) Italian tomato sauce
2 diced tomatoes (canned tomatoes can be substituted)
2 cloves garlic
Italian seasonings to taste
Freshly sliced Mozzerella Cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400F In a medium sauce pan, brown sausages (still in casings) until no long pink. Slice in half length wise and set aside. Brown ground beef, onions, green peppers, garlic and mushrooms until meat is throughly cooked, drain. Add tomato sauce, diced tomatoes (if using canned tomatoes, drain them prior to adding them to the pan) and Italian seasonings, bring to a simmer until tomatoes soften slightly, stirring occasionally. Cut top of French loaf off in a "V" shape, line the sides with sliced sausages. Place with Meat/tomato mixture on top of sausages. Top with freshly sliced Mozzerella. Wrap entire loaf in foil and bake for 20 minutes, uncover top, so that cheese is exposed, and bake for an additional 10 minutes. Slice and serve

Tips:

  • Choose a high-quality loaf of French bread: You want the bread to be sturdy enough to hold the stuffing, but not too hard. A loaf that is a day or two old is ideal.
  • Use a variety of fillings: The possibilities are endless, so get creative! Some popular fillings include cooked meats, cheeses, vegetables, and herbs.
  • Don't overstuff the bread: You want the stuffing to be evenly distributed and not too dense.
  • Brush the bread with butter or olive oil before baking: This will help the bread to brown and crisp up.
  • Bake the bread in a preheated oven: This will help the bread to cook evenly.
  • Let the bread cool slightly before slicing and serving: This will help the filling to set and the bread to hold its shape.

Conclusion:

Stuffed French loaf is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's perfect for a party or a potluck, and it's also a great way to use up leftover meat and vegetables. With so many different variations, you're sure to find a stuffed French loaf recipe that you'll love.
