THE BEST SLOPPY JOES

The Best Sloppy Joes image

This is weeknight comfort food at its finest. We created a homemade sauce that is tangy and flavorful but also quick and easy. We used both ketchup and canned tomato sauce for lots of tomato-y zip and just a touch of brown sugar for a bit of sweetness and slight caramel finish. Green bell pepper is a key addition; it really enhances the other ingredients, elevating the flavor profile into the realm of a true sloppy joe.

MEN'S HEALTH SOUTHWEST SLOPPY JOES

Men's Health Southwest Sloppy Joes image

This is from Men's Health Magazine, where the recipe is titled Asian Sloppy Joes. Because of the ingredients, I think of these as being more 'Southwest'. We tried them today for the first time and they were delicious! I modified the ingredients only to suit what was available to me. I think this would also be good on tortillas.

Tips:

  • Use lean ground beef. This will help to reduce the amount of grease in the sloppy joes.
  • Drain the ground beef well before adding it to the other ingredients. This will also help to reduce the amount of grease.
  • Use a variety of spices to flavor the sloppy joes. This will give them a more complex flavor.
  • Don't overcook the sloppy joes. They should be cooked until the ground beef is browned and the sauce is thickened, but not so long that the ground beef becomes dry.
  • Serve the sloppy joes on hamburger buns or slider buns. You can also serve them over rice or mashed potatoes.

Conclusion:

Southwestern sloppy joes are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for a casual get-together or a weeknight dinner. With a few simple tips, you can make sure that your sloppy joes are flavorful, juicy, and cooked to perfection.
