Crisp celery, peas, and scallions punctuate this version, which is sprinkled with bits of ham and ground pepper and nutmeg in this classic macaroni salad.

CREAMY MACARONI SALAD

Creamy Macaroni Salad image

I have looked all over for a great macaroni salad; this one is it! It's easy and is a huge hit at every function I take it to. The sauce for this is a great creamy sauce. I like my salads to have a lot of creamy dressing, so I always make an extra half batch of the wet mix and add it as necessary to get the salad more wet because the pasta soaks up the sauce.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use freshly grated cheddar cheese. Pre-shredded cheese contains cellulose, which can make the macaroni salad dry and gritty.
  • If you don't have sour cream, you can substitute plain Greek yogurt. Just be sure to add a little extra lemon juice or vinegar to taste.
  • If you want a creamier macaroni salad, add an extra 1/4 cup of sour cream or yogurt.
  • For a tangier macaroni salad, add an extra tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar.
  • If you like a little heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few drops of hot sauce.
  • For a more colorful macaroni salad, add some chopped fresh vegetables, such as bell pepper, celery, or cucumber.
  • Be sure to chill the macaroni salad for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Conclusion:

Sour cream cheddar macaroni salad is a classic side dish that is perfect for potlucks, picnics, and summer barbecues. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. With its creamy, tangy, and cheesy flavor, this macaroni salad is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
