We're cooking up Salisbury Steak with Onions and Gravy. It's one of those traditional Southern comfort food items you'll find on the menu at Mom and Pop style restaurants and diners throughout the South. Fresh ground beef, caramelized onions and a rich brown gravy make this one more delicious item to serve to your family and friends.

Steps:
- For the meat mixture: Combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, bouillon and some salt and pepper. Knead until all combined. Form into 4 to 6 oval patties, and then make lines across the patties to give them a "steak" appearance.
- Fry the patties in a skillet with the butter and oil over medium-high heat on both sides until no longer pink in the middle. Remove from the skillet and pour off any excess grease.
- For the gravy: Reduce the heat to medium and add in the sliced onions. Stir and cook until golden brown and somewhat soft, for several minutes. Add the beef stock, ketchup, seasoning sauce, if using, and the Worcestershire. Then combine the cornstarch with a little beef broth and add to the sauce if using. Stir and cook to reduce.
- Add a sprinkle of salt and pepper and more broth if needed for thinning. Then return the patties to the gravy. Spoon the gravy over the top and let them simmer and heat back up for a couple of minutes.
Tips:
- For the best flavor, use high-quality ground beef. Look for beef that is at least 80% lean.
- Season the beef patties liberally with salt and pepper. This will help to enhance the flavor of the meat.
- Cook the beef patties over medium heat. This will help to prevent them from drying out.
- Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the beef patties. This will prevent them from cooking evenly.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the beef patties are cooked to your desired doneness.
- Make sure the gravy is simmering before adding the beef patties back to the pan. This will help to prevent the gravy from curdling.
- Serve the smothered country Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
Conclusion:
Smothered country Salisbury steak is a delicious and comforting dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple tips, you can make sure that your smothered country Salisbury steak is a hit with your family and friends.
