2 Tbsp olive oil
3 pounds stew meat
salt and pepper
3 cups beef broth
1 package dry onion soup mix
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 small onion (diced)
2 cups mushrooms (sliced )
3 garlic cloves (minced)
1/4 cup water
3 Tbsp cornstarch

Steps:

  • In a large skillet over medium high heat add the olive oil. Salt and pepper the stew meat and add in batches to sear on both sides until brown, but do not cook throughtout. Add the stew meat to the slow cooker.
  • Add the beef broth, dry onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, onions, mushroom, and garlic. Cook on low for 5-6 hours or high 3-4 hours.
  • 30 minutes before it is done cooking, mix together in a small bowl the water and cornstarch. Stir it into the slow cooker and allow it to thicken.

1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 medium onion, coarsely chopped
1 celery rib, coarsely chopped
6 garlic cloves, halved
2 cups beef broth
1-1/2 cups dry red wine
1 fresh rosemary sprig
1 bay leaf
2 cans (4 ounces each) sliced mushrooms
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
Hot cooked egg noodles

Steps:

  • Sprinkle beef with salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Brown beef in batches. Remove with a slotted spoon to a 3- or 4-qt. slow cooker., In same pan, add onion and celery; cook and stir until tender, 6-8 minutes. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer.
