This recipe came out of an old Southern Living cookbook. Since I love sesame seed, cheese, and biscuits, I knew it was a winner the first time I laid eyes on it. Give it a try.

1 cup packaged biscuit mix
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds (I toast mine in a small saute pan on top of the stove, but be careful not to burn)
1/3 cup half and half milk
1 tablespoon melted butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • Combine the biscuit mix, cheese, sesame seed and half and half in a bowl and mix well.
  • Shape into balls and place on a greased baking sheet, flaten slightly with palm of hand.
  • Brush with the melted butter.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.

1 1/4 cups sesame seeds, toasted
3/4 cup coconut
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup peanut oil
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350@. Combine seeds & coconut. Toast 7 - 10 minutes or until light brown. Set aside.
  • Combine flour, baking powder, soda & salt. Set aside.
  • In another bowl- cream oil & brown sugar, add eggs & vanilla, beating well. Add seeds & coconut, mix well. Blend in dry ingredients.
  • Shape into 1" balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet & flatten with a fork.
  • Bake at 350@ for 12 minutes.

2 cups all purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 1/4 cups grated extra-sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup (about) cold buttermilk
1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon milk (glaze)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Combine first 6 ingredients in processor and blend. Add butter and cut in, using on/off turns, until fine meal forms. Transfer to large bowl. Mix in cheese. (Can be prepared 4 hours ahead. Cover and chill.)
  • Mix enough buttermilk into flour mixture to bind dough. Turn out onto floured surface and knead gently until combined, about 10 turns. Pat out dough to 3/4-inch thickness. Using 3-inch-diameter cookie cutter, cut out biscuits. Gather scraps, pat out to 3/4-inch thickness and cut additional biscuits. Transfer biscuits to ungreased cookie sheet. Brush biscuits with egg glaze and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake until golden brown and firm to touch, about 18 minutes. Serve warm.

1 cup rolled oats
1 cup plain flour
1 cup caster sugar
1/2 cup desiccated coconut
1 cup sesame seeds
3 tablespoons margarine
2 tablespoons golden syrup
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 tablespoon hot water

Steps:

  • Melt Margarine and Golden Syrup over low heat or in the microwave.
  • Mix Bicarb Soda with water and add to margarine and syrup mix.
  • Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  • Mix margarine and syrup through.
  • Place small balls onto lightly greased trays and flatten slightly.
  • Bake 150 deg celcius for 15 minutes.
