Tips:
- Choose the right potatoes: Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes are the best choices for scalloped potatoes, as they hold their shape well and have a creamy texture.
- Slice the potatoes evenly: This will help them cook evenly and prevent some pieces from being overcooked while others are still undercooked.
- Use a sharp knife: A sharp knife will make it easier to slice the potatoes evenly and prevent them from breaking.
- Layer the potatoes and other ingredients in a greased baking dish: This will help the potatoes cook evenly and prevent them from sticking to the dish.
- Season the potatoes: Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are classic seasonings for scalloped potatoes, but you can also add other herbs and spices to taste.
- Use a flavorful cheese: A good quality cheddar cheese is a classic choice for scalloped potatoes, but you can also use other cheeses, such as Gruyère, Parmesan, or Fontina.
- Bake the potatoes until they are tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly: This will typically take about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
