Categories     Vegetable     Side     Sauté     Thanksgiving

Yield 8 1/2 c servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 T + 1 t butter
1 T + 1 t olive oil
6 c diagonally sliced carrots
1/2 c water
1/2 t salt
1/2 t black pepper
2 T + 2 t fresh small sage leaves

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add oil to pan, swirl to coat. Add carrots and 1/2 c water. Partially cover pan and cook 10 min or until carrots are almost tender. Add salt and pepper to pan, increase to med-high heat. Cook 4 min or until carrots are tender and lightly browned, stirring frequently. Sprinkle with sage.

Tips:

  • Choose the right carrots: Look for carrots that are firm and brightly colored. Avoid carrots that are limp or have blemishes.
  • Cut the carrots evenly: This will help them cook evenly. If you are using baby carrots, you can leave them whole.
  • Use fresh sage: Fresh sage has a more intense flavor than dried sage. If you don't have fresh sage, you can use 1/2 teaspoon of dried sage.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: If you overcrowd the pan, the carrots will steam instead of sautéing.
  • Cook the carrots until they are tender but still slightly crunchy: This will take about 5-7 minutes.
  • Season the carrots to taste: Salt and pepper are essential, but you can also add other seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.

Conclusion:

Sautéed carrots with sage is a simple but delicious side dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of meals. It is a healthy and flavorful way to get your daily dose of vegetables. The carrots are tender and slightly crunchy, with a hint of sage flavor. This dish is sure to please everyone at the table.
