Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients, especially the yeast. Old yeast may not be active enough to properly leaven the bread.
  • Make sure the water is warm, but not too hot. Hot water can kill the yeast.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place, free from drafts. A warm oven with the light on is a good option.
  • Don't over-knead the dough. Over-kneading can make the bread tough.
  • When braiding the dough, be gentle. Don't pull or stretch the dough too much, or it may tear.
  • Bake the bread until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

Conclusion:

Challah is a delicious and versatile bread that can be enjoyed in many different ways. It is perfect for sandwiches, toast, or even just plain. With a little planning and effort, you can easily make challah at home. So next time you're looking for a special bread to serve at your next meal, give challah a try. You won't be disappointed!
