2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt

2 cups Homemade BBQ Sauce (or Store Bought)

Steps:

RIBS TO DIE FOR

Ribs to Die For image

The title is the best description. Everyone who eats them, loves them. I have NEVER had any leftovers when I make them. The nice thing about this recipe, is that you can make it ahead...and then just throw the ribs on the grill or broiler 15 minutes before you are ready to eat. They are so easy, and it will seem like you slaved in the kitchen. :)

TO DIE FOR BARBEQUED RIBS

To Die for Barbequed Ribs image

If you are looking for a rib recipe that is not your regular BBQ sauce kind of thing - look no further. The original recipe is called Vietnamese Style Barbequed Ribs from the 'Cocktail Chef'. My husband has made this recipe many times and it never fails to bring in rave reviews. The flavours are asian inspired and wonderful. The marinade can be frozen and re-used a 2nd time; the 2nd use gets a spicier note. Our kids (9 & 7) love the recipe, so it is also kid friendly and not too spicy even when using chilies. You need to prepare in advance as a long marinating time is required (24-48 hours). Don't look to closely at the calorie count as the marinade packs a lot of calories that are not consumed

6 shallots, finely chopped
1 onion, finely chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 scotch bonnet pepper, finely minced (leave seeds in)
3 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
1 1/2 cups fish sauce
3 stalks lemongrass, finely minced

  • Heat oil in sauce pan and saute shallots, onion, garlic and chilies until fragrant and translucent, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and add chilies, stir.

  • Grill the individual ribs on the BBQ for 10 minutes until done.
  • Alternately you can use the grill/broil function of your oven.

Categories     Pork

Time 4h

Yield 4-6 depends on size of rack, 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 16

2 racks of baby-back pork ribs
3 tablespoons mustard powder
3 tablespoons onion powder
3 tablespoons garlic powder
3 tablespoons ground allspice
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon cayenne powder
3 tablespoons Lawry's Seasoned Salt
1 tablespoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons fresh ground black pepper
1 (18 ounce) bottle hickory flavored barbecue sauce
1 (18 ounce) bottle honey-flavored barbecue sauce
3/4 cup light brown sugar
6 garlic cloves, finely chopped
3 tablespoons liquid smoke flavoring
3/4 cup apple cider vinegar

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 325°F.
  • Wash ribs and pat dry with paper towels. Set on rimmed baking sheet or in a large roasted pan. Place mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, allspice powder, chili powder, cayenne, Lowry's seasoned salt, salt and pepper in a gallon-sized re-closable plastic bag, or a pizza spice shaker container, and shake vigorously to mix well. Pour half seasoned rub mixture onto one side of the ribs and massage into flesh. Turn ribs over and pour the remaining rub mixture onto other side of ribs and massage into flesh. Cover ribs fully with a large sheet of heavy duty tin foil, rolling edges of foil under and into baking sheet to make an air proof seal. I leave them in the frige overnight to merinate well. I don't know if this is what makes them so tender, but they are! Place in oven and cook for 3 hours.
  • Remove from oven, carefully unseal foil - keep your hands and face a way from the hot steam. Heat grill to high. Place barbecue sauces, brown sugar, garlic, liquid smoke and cider vinegar into a medium-sized sauce pan, stir to combine. Using a large pastry brush, baste generously with sauce. Place sauce over medium-high heat, bring to a boil, then lower heat to medium and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside. Place ribs on grill and cook, about 4-6 minutes a side, 8-12 minutes total.
  • Remove to a cutting board, cut into 2-3 rib portions, place on serving platter and serve with remaining barbecue sauce on the side.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ribs: Look for ribs that are meaty and have good marbling. Avoid ribs that are too thin or have a lot of bone.
  • Prepare the ribs: Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. This will help the ribs cook more evenly and will also make them more tender.
  • Season the ribs: Season the ribs with your favorite rub or seasoning mix. Be sure to rub the seasoning into the ribs so that it penetrates the meat.
  • Cook the ribs low and slow: Ribs need to be cooked low and slow in order to become tender and fall off the bone. The ideal cooking temperature is between 225 and 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Baste the ribs: Basting the ribs with a mixture of barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar will help to keep them moist and flavorful.
  • Let the ribs rest: Once the ribs are cooked, let them rest for 10-15 minutes before serving. This will help the juices redistribute throughout the meat.

Conclusion:

Making ribs to die for is not difficult, but it does take some time and effort. By following these tips, you can create ribs that are tender, flavorful, and fall off the bone. So next time you're looking for a delicious and impressive dish to serve, give these recipes a try.
