2 small racks baby back ribs (1 1/2 to 2 pounds each), cut in half
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 tablespoons ancho chile powder
2/3 cup teriyaki-style barbecue sauce (such as Sweet Baby Ray's)
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar

Whisk 1/3 cup barbecue sauce, the vinegar, ginger and garlic in a 6- to 8-quart slow cooker. Add the ribs and turn to coat in the sauce. Cover and cook on low until the ribs are tender, 7 hours.
  • Preheat the broiler. Transfer the ribs to a rimmed baking sheet. Remove 1/4 cup of the cooking liquid to a small bowl and whisk in the remaining 1/3 cup barbecue sauce, the pineapple preserves and ketchup.

SLOW COOKER BABY BACK RIBS

Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs image

These are the best I've had, short of the actual grilling method of course! This is a very simple recipe that I came up with a few years ago. It's not rocket science, just ribs cooked in the slow cooker and finished in the oven. This is what I do when I want ribs during the week and have to work all day. I'm eating them within a half-hour of getting home, and they turn out perfect every time!

Tips:

  • Choose the right ribs. Baby back ribs are the most popular choice for slow cooker ribs, as they are tender and flavorful. However, you can also use spare ribs, which are meatier but may take longer to cook.
  • Make a flavorful rub. A good rub will help to enhance the flavor of the ribs. You can use a store-bought rub or make your own using a combination of spices and herbs. Some popular spices and herbs to use in a rib rub include garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chili powder, cumin, and oregano.
  • Cook the ribs on low heat. Low and slow cooking is the best way to achieve fall-off-the-bone ribs. Cook the ribs on low heat for 8-10 hours, or until they are tender and easily pierced with a fork.
  • Baste the ribs occasionally. Basting the ribs with the cooking liquid will help to keep them moist and flavorful. Baste the ribs every hour or so during the cooking process.
  • Let the ribs rest before serving. Once the ribs are cooked, let them rest for 10-15 minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

Conclusion:

Slow cooker ribs are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a casual gathering or a special occasion. By following these tips, you can make the best slow cooker ribs that will impress your family and friends.
