Steps:
- Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a small saucepan. Add the onions, garlic and jalapeño peppers and cook, stirring occasionally, until very soft, about ten minutes. Do not brown.
- Transfer the cooked onion mixture to a blender or food processor and add the black beans, salt, cumin, lime juice, water and cilantro. Blend until smooth (if you're using a blender, you may need to stop and stir a few times to help it out). If the dip is too thick, add more water or lime juice, little by little, to thin it out. Taste and adjust seasoning, then transfer to a serving bowl. Serve warm, cold or room temperature with tortilla chips.
- *Most of the heat from the jalapeños is in the seeds and ribs, so leave those out. If you like a spicier dip, reserve the seeds and add them little by little when you're blending the dip.

Tips:
- Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, ripe avocados, flavorful black beans, and zesty lime juice are essential for making a delicious black bean dip. Using high-quality ingredients will elevate the flavor of your dip and make it a hit at your next party or gathering.
- Don't over-process the dip: Black bean dip should have a slightly chunky texture. If you over-process it, the dip will become too smooth and lose its rustic charm. Pulse the ingredients in a food processor or blender until they are just combined, leaving some small chunks of beans and vegetables.
- Season to taste: Every palate is different, so be sure to taste the dip and adjust the seasonings as needed. Add more salt, pepper, chili powder, or lime juice until the dip reaches your desired flavor profile.
- Chill the dip before serving: Chilled black bean dip is more refreshing and flavorful. Cover the dip and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve with a variety of dippers: Black bean dip is versatile and can be served with a variety of dippers, such as tortilla chips, pita chips, vegetable crudités, or crackers. You can also use the dip as a spread on sandwiches or wraps.
