RETRO SCHOOL CAFETERIA PEANUT BUTTER BARS
It's taken me a while to find this recipe. There are many versions of "the peanut butter bar" but, I believe this recipe comes the closest to what I remember eating in the 1960's (via our elementary school lunchroom). Boy those ladies could really cook back then!

Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 15x10-inch baking pan.
- Cream white sugar, brown sugar, butter, and eggs together in a mixing bowl. Mix in peanut butter and vanilla extract. Add flour and blend well. Add oats, baking soda, and salt and mix to combine. Spread into the prepared pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven until golden and the edges start to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool or chill in the refrigerator, about 30 minutes.
- While bars cool, blend powdered sugar, butter, milk, and peanut butter together in a bowl, adding more milk to give frosting the desired consistency. Frost cooled bars and cut into 20 pieces.

RETRO BING BARS
This is a homemade version of the Twin Bing® candy bars from the 60s. They are rich and sweet and a small piece is a nice treat. These really are like candy, so cut in small pieces. A 1-inch square is sufficient! Store in a cool place in an airtight container, separating layers with waxed paper.

Steps:
- Combine sugar, butter, salt, marshmallows and evaporated milk to a boil, and boil for 5 minutes. Stir constantly as this mixture can scorch easily. Remove from heat, stir in cherry chip until melted and pour into a buttered 9 x 13 pan. Chill until set. Melt chocolate chips and peanut butter, either in microwave or on the stovetop, stir in peanuts. Pour over cherry mixture and chill again until set.
Tips:
- Use high-quality semisweet chocolate for the best flavor.
- If you don't have a candy thermometer, you can test the temperature of the melted chocolate by dropping a small amount into a glass of cold water. If the chocolate hardens immediately, it is ready to use.
- To make the bars easier to cut, chill them in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
- For a fun twist, try adding chopped nuts, dried fruit, or marshmallows to the melted chocolate before pouring it into the pan.
- Bing Bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
Conclusion:
Bing Bars are a delicious and easy-to-make candy bar that is perfect for any occasion. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a classic treat that everyone will love. So next time you're looking for a sweet snack, give Bing Bars a try!
