Yuletide Toffee Squares image

clipped this out of a magazine many years ago....it's a great addition to a holiday office party, gift bag, or any dessert table! Enjoy!

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 1/2 c rolled oats (uncooked)
1 c brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4 c butter, melted
1/2 c dark corn syrup
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp salt
1 pkg semi-sweet choc. pieces
2 Tbsp shortening, butter flavor
2/3 c chopped mixed nuts

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 450 F and grease a 15x10 in pan.
  • 2. Combine oats, sugar, butter, corn syrup, vanilla and salt. Mix well.
  • 3. Firmly press mixture into pan and bake 12 minutes or until mixture is brown and bubbly.
  • 4. cool completely
  • 5. In a glass bowl, add shortening and chocolate pieces and microwave on high for 1-2 minutes. Stir after 1 minute and then every 30 seconds until smooth.
  • 6. Spread evenly over base, sprinkle with nuts. Chill until set and then cut into bars.
