Tarver Tomato Gravy image

I have no idea where this recipe came from, but I grew up eating this and it's a favorite of many Southern families. Before I wrote down the ingredients, there was not an actual recipe-it was something done from memory. Now every time I make it, I post photos online to make my cousins jealous. I have shared this recipe with lots of them because it is a true comfort food for our family. - Michelle "Red" Roberts, Birmingham, Alabama

I'm not a huge fan of tomatoes, but this gravy is so good that I actually enjoyed it. The sweetness of the tomatoes is perfectly balanced by the acidity of the vinegar, and the bacon and sausage add a nice savory flavor.
