We love Brussels sprouts at my house, especially with lamb. This is a great do-ahead recipe.

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 ½ pounds Brussels sprouts
3 tablespoons butter
1 onion, finely chopped
¼ cup all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
salt and pepper to taste
1 dash ground cloves to taste
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Steps:

  • Place Brussels sprouts in a saucepan with enough lightly salted water to cover. Bring to a boil, and cook 7 to 10 minutes, or until just tender; drain.
  • In a separate saucepan large enough to hold the Brussels Sprouts, melt the butter and cook the onion until browned. Remove saucepan from heat, and stir in the flour until smooth. Return saucepan to low heat, and continue stirring until flour is lightly browned. Gradually blend in the beef broth. Season with salt, pepper, and cloves. Stir in the brown sugar and lemon juice. Place the cooked Brussels sprouts in the mixture, and allow to simmer 5 minutes before serving.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but these were not good. The sauce was too thick and the sprouts were tough.

I followed the recipe exactly and the sprouts turned out mushy. I think I'll try roasting them next time.

Easy to make and delicious! The sprouts were a little bitter for my taste, but the sauce helped to balance that out. I'll definitely make these again.

These Sweet and Sour Brussels Sprouts were a hit! The sprouts were perfectly tender and the sauce was flavorful and tangy. I loved the addition of the bacon, which added a nice smoky flavor. Will definitely be making these again!
