Hearty and easy to fix, this thick stew has a comforting, chili-like flavor. It's my best barley recipe. I'm sure you'll agree that it's a tasty dish. -Lisa Kolenich, Regina, Saskatchewan

I found that this stew was a little bland. I added some extra chili powder and cumin to give it more flavor.

This stew was a little too spicy for my taste, but I was able to tone it down by adding some sour cream.

I added some chopped sweet potatoes to this stew and it was delicious! The sweetness of the potatoes balanced out the spiciness of the chili peppers.

This stew is a great way to use up leftover beef. I had some flank steak that I cooked the night before and it worked perfectly in this recipe.

I made this stew in my slow cooker and it was perfect for a busy weeknight meal. The beef was fall-apart tender and the barley was cooked just right.
