Pita Burgers image

From Taste of Home. I found some great pitas and I'm looking at different recipes to try and posting here for safekeeping.

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 small onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
2 cups lettuce, shredded
1 medium cucumber, seeded and chopped
1 cup low-fat plain yogurt
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted
6 whole gyro-style pita bread (6 inches)

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the onion, garlic and seasonings; crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into six patties.
  • Grill or broil for 5-7 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer reads 160° and juices run clear.
  • Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the lettuce, cucumber, yogurt and sesame seeds. Top each burger with lettuce mixture; serve on pita breads.

These pita burgers were a bit too spicy for my taste. I think I would use less chili powder next time. Otherwise, they were pretty good.
