Steps:
- Combine first four ingredients and beat for 2 minutes.
- Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda. Add to wet mixture.
- Toss pecans in a bit of flour, then stir apples and pecans into the cake mixture.
- Pour batter into greased 9 x13 pan and bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes.
- Remove cake from oven. Mix the butter, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla in a saucepan and boil for 3 minutes to make a caramel sauce.
- Spread half of the carmel sauce on top of the warm cake. Reserve remaining caramel sauce to serve, reheated, with the cake.
